Why this is a great photo

• Wonderful expression and very natural pose.
• Terrific color – period.
• The perfectly shallow depth-of-field, shot at f2.8, gives a blurred background.  Given the soft colors behind the girl, it’s really the right call for an aperture setting.

How it could be better

• This beautiful image needs to be cropped tighter.  There is too much head room at the top.  A tighter crop would add impact to this sweet pic.

Lesson to learn from this photo

The real key to great portraiture is making your subject relaxed and natural.   Always take your time on portraits, and work to get the very natural, ‘un-posed’ look we see here.
